Using tactics with horse racing betting
10th April 2011
Many people, who earn a lot of money through horse racing betting, do so tactfully. It takes more than just selecting a horse and hoping for the best. If you want the best possible chance of winning then you need to make tactical decisions. The question is, what tactics can you use with a horse racing bet?
“Step One – Research and Preparation
The first step to a successful bet is doing your research. Firstly you should know everything that there is to know about horse racing. With the internet this is now easier than ever before. Get to know the terms and the basics before you start to bet. Then once you know that you can start to prepare.
Print off the racing cards for the next day’s races. Highlight the races that you know the most about. If there are races that you know very little about then you should avoid them. These could include nursery races or runner sprint handicaps. Stick to one type of race and try to specialise in it.
Step Number Two – Know the Horses Tactical Speed
This is basically how quickly the horse can get to the front. You should not confuse it with early speed however. You are not necessarily looking for the horse that will get to the front the quickest. You want the one that will get to the front gradually over the course of the race. Once at the front it is very difficult for them to get taken over and face obstacles around the track. Horses that get to the front too quickly will tire earlier than the ones behind. That is why you need to find a horse that has a tactical speed that will get to the front gradually.
To get to know the tactical speed you will need to study the results of the horses last few races. Look at the speed in which the horse got to the front and how far behind the winner it was. By knowing the tactical speed you will get a good idea of whether the horse is worth a bet.
Step Number Three – Determine the Losers
As well as determining which horse you think will be the winner, it would also be helpful if you determine which ones you think will lose. Again this includes researching through the horse history. Look at the results of their races and also pay attention to weight penalties. If a horse wins quite frequently, it will receive weight penalties. This could affect how well it runs during the race.
In order to make tactical sports bets you need to study the market. Look at the main players and also keep an eye out for new horses from top stables. Tactical speed is one of the main tools that can help you to make logical bets. Don’t waste too much time studying statistics and pie charts. Just do a little research on the horses and their previous results. The racing card will tell you practically everything that you need to know to make a tactical decision.
